Would-be forger bumbles at the bank

There are brain surgeons, there are rocket scientists -- and then there's the guy who tried to cash a check at the Commerce Bank branch across from City Hall late Monday afternoon ... He went into the bank at 5:10 p.m. and tried to cash a stolen check, police said. When the bank clerk became suspicious, the 23-year-old man grew anxious and fled the bank ... He jumped into a red Mustang and raced away, leaving the check behind ... Oh, and his ID, too ... Needless to say, it didn't take police

He didn't care much about being seen by security cameras, but the man who robbed the In the Bag dry cleaners store at 5624 E. Central early this morning was quite concerned about his manners ... The robber came into the store at about 7:40 a.m. today and told the clerk he had a gun in his jacket. When the clerk told him the store had a security camera, he replied that he wasn't from Wichita and therefore wasn't concerned about anyone being able to recognize him ... The former manager of the Honky Tonk nightclub in Haysville that was destroyed by fire has been sentenced to five years in federal prison for fraud, the U.S. Attorney's Office said today ... James H.
